PVNH Support & Awareness has been monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situation closely. As we will not risk the health of our Community, speakers and partners and per recommendations from the World Health Organizations (WHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC) and public health departments in Canada, USA and abroad, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel the 2020 PVNH Conference which was to the be held on April 18-19, 2020, in Utrecht, Netherlands. Registered participants will receive a refund within the next few days. It is our hope to deliver an educational event, either in person or online, at a later date.
Although Periventricular Nodular Heterotopia and Subcortical Band Heterotopia are neurological disorders, PVNH, specifically can sometimes manifest itself with multisystem complications such as lung, cardiovascular, blood and immune problems. These can put certain affected individuals at a greater risk if they become infected with COVID-19. Please refer to the CDC for the latest information regarding who is at higher risk.
We remind our Community to follow recommended guidelines and general health principles to help prevent further spread of the virus:
- Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water
- Cough in your sleeve
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
- Practice self-distancing
- Avoid large crowds
- Stay home if you are sick. If symptoms persist, contact your local health line, doctor’s office or the hospital by phone and follow their recommendations.
The information provided here and on our additional resources page could change to reflect updates in the COVID-19 situation, so please refer to the WHO, CDC and public health departments websites for further information.
